The general manager of the Western Free Trade Zone, Rosa MarĆa Gamarra, highlighted the 30-year extension obtained by this park.

The Zona Franca de Occidente (ZFO), located in Mosquera and considered one of the most strategic free trade zones in the country due to its location and high quality standards, received an extension of its operation for a further 30 years from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Its general manager, Rosa MarĆa Gamarra, indicated that the new master plan for the industrial park includes a primary investment of $33.6 billion over 10 years, and approximately US$500 million in other investments submitted by all users, which will be dedicated to employment generation, sustainability, and innovation and technology.

What did the extension mean for you?

This is great news. The extension gives us 30 more years for the Western Free Trade Zone to continue operating. It is a margin that guarantees stability for all our users and those that will come, as well as job creation and the development of the region.

How does the region and the country benefit from this extension of the operation?

From the Western Free Trade Zone we are committed to continue being an important pole of economic development of the country and the region, in addition to encouraging exports, generating employment and investment. This extension is a decision that positions Colombia as a strategic ally in international trade and delivers a message of legal certainty so that investors who are interested in continuing to generate development have the certainty that there are great opportunities in Colombia.

How did they fare in 2021 in terms of economic recovery?

This year has been very positive, with significant sustained growth compared to the end of 2020. For example, our customs operations went from 76,400 operations last year to 107,400. The extension for the next 30 years will have an impact on foreign direct investment thanks to our high-tech infrastructure with a green seal, which is of great interest to industrialists today. It will also generate more stable jobs, new technologies and thus support the country's development.

What new companies will they host in 2022?

For the coming year we expect to materialise key projects and key investments from abroad for growth in industry and 4.0 technology. We are currently in very important negotiations to bring the first data centre to the municipality of Mosquera. The important thing is not only the investment in money, but also the transfer of knowledge and innovation that this news can bring.
