Zona Franca Occidente received the award for Best Free Zone in the Americas for SMEs in 2021, at the “Global Free Zones of the Year” awards by fDi Intelligence of the Financial Times group.
On October 14, 2021, fDi Intelligence magazine, part of the Financial Times Group (a British newspaper specializing in international business and economic news), highlighted ZFO as the only Free Trade Zone in Colombia and named the best Free Trade Zone in the Americas for SMEs.
According to fDi, these are the factors that make Zona Franca Occidente stand out as the best Free Trade Zone in the Americas for SMEs: Promoting e-commerce with ZFO entrepreneurs, since many points of sale had to close due to the pandemic, the strategy consisted of making the dispatch of goods possible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with the entry of customers to the Free Trade Zone to pick up goods without the need for prior authorization and without ceasing to comply with all biosecurity protocols.
In addition, Zona Franca Occidente is working to extend the exemption period for the Industry and Commerce Tax (ICA) for 10 years , encouraging foreign investment.
