Zona Franca Occidente was recognised as the Best Free Zone in the Americas for SMEs in 2021 in the "Global Free Zones of the Year" awards by fDi Intelligence of the Financial Times Group.
On October 14, 2021, the magazine fDi Intelligence of the Financial Times Group (a British newspaper with special emphasis on international business and economic news) highlighted ZFO as the only Free Trade Zone in Colombia as the best Free Trade Zone in the Americas for SMEs.
According to the fDi, these are the factors that make Zona Franca Occidente stand out as the best Free Trade Zone in the Americas for SMEs: Promoting e-commerce with ZFO entrepreneurs, since many points of sale had to close due to the pandemic, the strategy consisted in allowing the dispatch of goods to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with customers entering the Free Trade Zone to pick up goods without the need for prior authorisation and without failing to comply with all biosecurity protocols.
In addition, Zona Franca Occidente's work to extend the time of exemptions for 10 years from the Industry and Commerce Tax (ICA) to encourage foreign investment.
