Free trade zones are demarcated geographical areas of the national territory, where industrial activities are developed for the production of goods and services or commercial activities, which are subject to special tax, customs and foreign trade regulations.
The current legislation on free trade zones emanates from Law No. 1004 of December 30, 2005. Among other clarifications, it states that all legal entities may benefit from all economic activities, except for the exploration or extraction of natural resources, provision of financial services and housing services.
